Glass railings, pool fences and sliding doors are meant to show off the view. Sprinklers, pool splash and rain cover them in spots instead.
- Railings and patio glass take sprinkler and pool splash daily.
- Spotless X2 removes the spots from glass and metal.
- Keep it off painted or powder-coated parts.
- Aim sprinklers away and dry pool-side glass.
Why outdoor glass spots so badly
Outdoor glass is wet constantly: sprinklers, pool and spa splash, morning dew and rain, then full sun. The minerals in that water layer up quickly, and because railings and doors are meant to be see-through, the haze is impossible to miss.

Where the spots come from
- Sprinklers hitting the glass
- Pool and spa splash
- Hosing down the lanai or deck
How to clean them
Spotless X2 is a strong acid cleaner: its Safety Data Sheet lists it as causing severe skin burns and eye damage. Wear gloves and eye protection, keep it off your skin, and read the label before you start. Every sheet is on our SDS page.
What you’ll need
- Spotless X2
- Microfiber pads
- Microfiber towels
- Extension pole (optional)
- Nitrile gloves
- Eye protection
- Work on cool, dry glass in the shade. Start clean so you can see every spot.
- Use a quarter-sized dab of Spotless X2 on a microfiber applicator pad. A little covers a big area.
- Cross-hatch it over the spots, up and down then side to side. Heavy buildup may need a second pass.
- Wipe with a damp towel, then buff dry with a clean microfiber.
Glass railings often have metal posts and clips. Spotless X2 works on metal too, but keep it off painted or powder-coated parts, and test any special finish first.
Keep them clear
- Aim sprinklers away from glass.
- Dry pool-side glass after heavy use.
- A coat of SFX1 helps water bead off.
Working safely on railings
Clean from the deck side whenever you can, and never lean over a railing to reach the outside. For high or hard-to-reach glass, use an extension pole or hire a pro. Protect plants and furniture below from drips.
Common mistakes to avoid
Leaning over railings. Stay safe; clean from the deck side.
Product on powder-coated posts. Keep it on the glass.
Cleaning in afternoon sun. Glass gets hot.
Ignoring the pool splash zone. Dry it after use.
A simple care schedule
| When | What to do |
