Search for a glass water spot remover and two names keep coming up: our Spotless X2 and CarPro Spotless (now Spotless 2.0). They sound alike and both go after mineral spots, but they’re built for different ways of working. Here’s a straight comparison so you can pick the right one.
- Both are acid-based cleaners that dissolve mineral deposits; neither one is a polish.
- CarPro Spotless is a spray made for paint and glass, and it’s marketed as safe on CQuartz coatings.
- Spotless X2 is a glass-and-hard-surface remover you work in by hand with a small dab on a pad.
- Neither fixes etching. If outlines stay after a proper clean, the glass needs polishing.
What each product is
CarPro Spotless 2.0 is a sprayable water spot remover from CarPro, the maker of the CQuartz coatings. Its maker describes a blend of “gentle acids” that breaks down the minerals left by dried water drops, for single-stage and clear-coated paint, glass, chrome, stainless steel, plastic and rubber trim. It’s sold as compatible with all CQuartz coatings, which is why it’s popular with people who maintain a coated car.
Spotless X2 is our glass remover. It’s made for hard water spots, mineral buildup, red dirt film and haze on windshields, windows, mirrors and chrome, plus hard surfaces at home and on the boat: glass, chrome, metal, porcelain and tile. You use a quarter-sized dab on a microfiber pad and wipe it on and off. It isn’t made for paint: for paint we make Dissolve X2.

How each one is meant to be used
CarPro’s directions call for a washed, dry, cool vehicle in the shade: spray, work it in one panel at a time, wipe off the residue right away with a soft microfiber, then rinse, dry and inspect. Retailer copies of the label also say not to use it on hot glass or in direct sun and not to leave it on more than about two minutes. If etching is left behind, CarPro points you to its own polishes.
Spotless X2 is a hand-applied, work-it-in product:
What you’ll need
- Spotless X2
- Microfiber applicator pad
- Two clean microfiber towels (one damp)
- Nitrile gloves
- Eye protection
Spotless X2 is a strong acid cleaner: its Safety Data Sheet lists it as causing severe skin burns and eye damage. Wear gloves and eye protection, keep it off your skin, and read the label before you start. Every sheet is on our SDS page.
- Work on cool, dry glass in the shade. Start clean so you can see every spot.
- Use a quarter-sized dab of Spotless X2 on a microfiber applicator pad. A little covers a big area.
- Cross-hatch it over the spots, up and down then side to side. Heavy buildup may need a second pass.
- Wipe with a damp towel, then buff dry with a clean microfiber.
Which one should you buy?
- You want one spray for paint and glass on a CQuartz-coated car: CarPro Spotless is designed around exactly that.
- Your problem is glass: heavy, baked-on spots on a windshield, side windows, mirrors or chrome, and maybe the shower door too. That’s what Spotless X2 is made for.
- You need paint and glass from one brand: pair Spotless X2 for glass with Dissolve X2 for paint. The Paint & Glass bundle has both.
- The outlines won’t go away with either: that’s likely etching, and no remover fixes it. See water spots vs. etching.
Whichever you use, protect the glass afterward. A coat of SFX1 helps water bead and roll off, so fewer drops dry into new spots.

Common mistakes to avoid
Working on hot glass. Both products need cool glass in the shade, or they dry before you can wipe them off.
Letting product dry on the surface. Wipe it off and rinse; don’t walk away mid-panel.
Using Spotless X2 on paint. It’s for glass and hard surfaces. Paint gets Dissolve X2.
Expecting a remover to fix etching. Removers dissolve deposits; they can’t refill damaged glass.
A simple care schedule
| When | What to do |
|---|---|
| Every wash | Dry the glass completely, including mirrors and the cowl. |
| When spots show | Spot-treat with your remover while they’re fresh. |
| After a deep clean | Protect with SFX1. |
| Every few months | Re-protect when water stops beading. |
Frequently asked questions
Is Spotless X2 the same as CarPro Spotless?
No. They’re different products from different companies. Both are acid-based mineral removers, but CarPro Spotless is a spray for paint and glass, and Spotless X2 is a hand-applied remover for glass and hard surfaces.
Can I use CarPro Spotless on glass?
Yes. Its maker lists glass as a use. Read the label on your bottle for the current directions.
Can I use Spotless X2 on car paint?
No. Keep Spotless X2 on glass, chrome and other hard surfaces and wipe any drips off paint right away. Use Dissolve X2 for spots on paint.
Which one is safe on a ceramic coating?
CarPro sells Spotless 2.0 as safe on its CQuartz coatings. For any coated surface, follow your coating maker’s care advice and test a small area first.
Will either one remove etching?
No. Etching is damage to the glass itself. Light etching can be polished; severe etching may mean replacing the glass.
